Detail description:
Module CDI-KISS Clostridioides difficile is the most common anaerobic pathogen responsible for nosocomial infections. In addition to C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDI), it causes severe diseases such as pseudomembranous enterocolitis and the often fatal toxic megacolon. In Germany's neighboring countries and North America, the incidence and mortality of diseases caused by this pathogen have increased rapidly in recent years. Currently, there is no recent data in Germany on the prevalence of the pathogen or the diseases it causes. Therefore, it is worthwhile to conduct surveillance of nosocomial CDI cases in Germany. Surveillance of nosocomial CDI cases can provide data on the prevalence of CDI cases, severe CDI cases in hospitals, and allow for the earlier detection of CDI outbreaks.
