Pathogen Surveillance

The steps for pathogen surveillance are described in detail in the protocol: Surveillance of patients with MRE and/or CDAD. You can record patients with MRSA, VRE, MRGN (colonisation and infection) and CDAD (infection only). Cases involving patients who already had an infection when they were admitted to hospital and nosocomial cases are counted. Each pathogen type can be selected individually.

Description of reference data

The reference data are stratified according to the scope of an admission screening for the respective MRP. Allocation to screening strategies is based on information provided by centres. For the calculation of the stratified reference data, only those wards were taken into account that continuously provided the same information on screening over the entire reference data period.

Type of screening at admission Information
Without consideration of screening parameters Reference data for all participating wards.
Screening of high-risk patients Reference data for wards in which patients with a risk of MRE colonisation are routinely examined on admission.
Screening of all admitted patients Reference data for wards in which all patients are routinely tested for the respective MRP.
No screening on admission Reference data for wards that do not routinely perform admission tests for the respective MRE.
