Modulname:
MRSA-KISS
Kurzname:
MRSA
Surveillance objective:
Pathogen-Surveillance
Surveillance principle:
Hospital-based (including rehabilitation clinics)
Patient collective:
- Stationary patients
Short description:
With the MRSA-KISS module, all MRSA cases in a hospital are recorded, and reference data are generated.
Detail description:
You can choose this module independently of other KISS modules (e.g., in addition to pathogen surveillance in ITS-KISS). The MRSA-KISS module records all MRSA cases in a hospital (both community-acquired and nosocomial). It uses data routinely collected in every hospital, such as patient days. Data submission is done once per year.
The recording applies only to inpatients; outpatients in polyclinics, etc., are not included in the surveillance.
The procedure for infection surveillance is detailed in the protocol: Surveillance of Nosocomial Infections in Intensive Care Units. The three most common types of nosocomial infections in ICUs—lower respiratory tract infections, septicemias, and urinary tract infections (indicator infections)—must be recorded obligatorily. Device use (e.g., urinary catheters, central venous catheters, endotracheal tubes) is also considered in the analysis. Recording additional infections (such as ventriculostomy-associated meningitis) is optional.
The procedure for pathogen surveillance is detailed in the protocol: Surveillance of Patients with MRE and/or CDI. You can record patients with MRSA, VRE, MRGN (colonization and infection), as well as CDI (infection only). Both community-acquired and nosocomial cases are counted, and each pathogen type can be selected individually.
MRSA-KISS Module
The MRSA-KISS module records all MRSA cases in a hospital and generates reference data. MRSA cases are calculated per 1,000 patient days, with a distinction made between nosocomial and community-acquired cases. It uses data routinely collected in every hospital, such as patient days.
Any hospital with an interest in participation may join, regardless of participation in other KISS modules (data must be collected for the entire hospital). Recording is limited to inpatients, meaning that outpatients (e.g., dialysis patients) are not included. Data is aggregated once per year for the previous calendar year (no data on individual patients), entered in the MRSA reporting form on the computer, and submitted to NRC via the email button on the form. In the future, data will be entered and submitted exclusively via webKESS. Annual evaluations and stratification based on patient group type will be conducted there. The data from all participating hospitals is aggregated and made available as reference data for comparison.
Hospitals wishing to participate in MRSA-KISS must first download the current protocol from this website and collect data according to the specified definitions.
MRSA-KISS-REHA Module
This module collects data for rehabilitation facilities in the same manner as MRSA-KISS (see protocol).
